As we start to prepare for what is often the busiest time of the year and approach our first anniversary of trading, it seems incredible to think that only 12 months ago we launched LCL. The 4th September to be precise. Since Jen Moore and Jenny Fell joined me last September, we have grown the team to five with our latest recruit being Will McCullam, who recently joined us as an apprentice.

We now have a well established team supporting both our internal and external markets and my intention is to develop the range of products and services in the next 12 months.  We are aiming to launch our “Legal Link” service to the SME market later in September.  This is our free service for all newly formed businesses to help them understand the legal requirements.  We find that many of the accountant contacts of the Leonard Curtis Business Solutions Group act for start-ups and newly formed businesses.  We are often asked to come alongside the accountant and advise the client on how best to structure and protect the business.  Recent examples of this include a new letting agency which required a suite of documents to deal with their landlord client base and a company needing contracts of employment for its new staff.

In other news, I was interested to read in the Sunday Times business section about a graduate who is now living in Mark Zuckerberg’s old house who has launched an app to deal with claims against local authorities where council tax has been miscalculated. The headline in the Sunday Times suggested that the app developer had declared war on the legal profession.  On reading the article, I was not so certain that the time had arrived when we should pack up and go home! However, it is a reminder that the times are they are a changing and that LCL must not stand still and we should continue to use technology to innovate and deliver new services to our clients in a way which adds value to their business.

So here are my predictions for the next 12 months at LCL.  We will develop our “in-house” function with dedicated people looking after each office to ensure our national continuity.

Our offering to the SME community will continue to develop and by September 2018, we will have over six mainstream service lines providing support to owner managers.. Our team will have increased to 8 people and we will have increased our revenue from the external market place by 50%.

We will increasingly be seen as a model for how legal services in the future will be delivered via an ABS model.

Our network of specialist lawyers who provide external support to our contacts and clients will have grown and become an important and strategic part of the development of the LCL model.

So lots to do in the next 12 months.  It’s going to be a busy time for us all!
